This model is applied to estimate M_max and to estimate the probability of occurrence of earthquakes in Finland, using for earthquakes occurring throughout the period 1700-1979. The earthquake with the greatest magnitude within a ten-year period was used. The application of maximum likelihood procedure for the parameter estimation provides M_max=5.0±0.1. date: 1985 date_type: published publication: Geophysica volume: 21 number: 1 publisher: the Geophysical Society of Finland pagerange: 39-50 refereed: TRUE issn: 0367-4231 official_url: http://www.geophysica.fi/pdf/geophysica_1985_21_1_039_kijko.pdf access_IS-EPOS: unlimited owner: Publisher citation: Kijko, Andrzej and Ahjos, Tellervo (1985) Seismic hazard in finland: evaluation of Mmax.
