This model is applied to estimate M_max and to estimate the probability of occurrence of earthquakes in Finland, using for earthquakes occurring throughout the period 1700-1979. The earthquake with the greatest magnitude within a ten-year period was used. The application of maximum likelihood procedure for the parameter estimation provides M_max=5.0±0.1. %N 1 %P 39-50 %V 21 %D 1985 %I the Geophysical Society of Finland %L epos228
