This model is applied to estimate M_max and to estimate the probability of occurrence of earthquakes in Finland, using for earthquakes occurring throughout the period 1700-1979. The earthquake with the greatest magnitude within a ten-year period was used. The application of maximum likelihood procedure for the parameter estimation provides M_max=5.0±0.1. publisher: the Geophysical Society of Finland date: 1985 type: Article type: PeerReviewed identifier: Kijko, Andrzej and Ahjos, Tellervo (1985) Seismic hazard in finland: evaluation of Mmax.
